You are so welcome. Being able to read just the basic notes opens a lot of doors in music and what you learn with reading music for lyres you can apply to all other instruments. I wish you all the best and if you need more support join our FB group or check out the website for more resources. These are all free?

Helloo! This is really nicee, Miss Sharon.

I am a total beginner at this and I cant wait to start playing the lyre!

I do understand the notes, but I cannot understand the difference between the multiples notes on the lyre like the ‘longer’ string G and the ‘shorter’ string G. So, how to know which note is which string?

    1. Learning The Lyre Harp

Hello Shakir. The G with the longer strings will be lower octave than the G with short strings. The longer and fatter the string the lower the tone they produce. At about 5:12 time there is a diagram I created that points to the strings of a lyre and connects them to where we would see these notes on the staff. There is also a free guide to reading music on the site at learningthelyreharp.com. Also check out Facebook Group if you would like a supportive community to help and cheer you on. I hope this is helpful ❤

Thank you Ms. Sharon. I know how to read music (simple music). How can I practice to learn which string is which? I mean I know it says it on the lyre.. but what can I do about muscle memory? If I can learn that I can play mostly by ear. Thank you

    1. Learning The Lyre Harp

Like all muscle building it comes with practice/exercise. The more you play, the more your fingers and mind will remember and it becomes second nature. It’s a gradual process. Start with simple songs, create simple exercises that you can use as a warm up and exercise. I put together a gradual pieces for Patreon members recently for technique building and am building things this year to help them learn in a progressive way.

@arch archs You’re welcome. There’s a lot of songs you can enjoy playing and learning on the lyre. Many songs in a different scale can be transposed to C and/or with a little creativity adapt to the lyre. I love arranging music and am really enjoying my lyre. I hope that you enjoy yours too. Very excited for you ?

@Learning The Lyre Harp this is why i was torn between the lever harp and the lyre in picking up a new instrument to learn because of the sharps and flats. i opted for the lyre instead due to budget constraints ?(the cheapest lever harp – is only 15 strings and costs almost twice as a 21-string lyre). excited for my lyre to arrive. thank you Sharon for these lessons. God bless ??

You can, but you would need to manually change the tuning on those strings before you start playing the song if the music calls for these flat or sharp notes throughout the music. It doesn’t work well for accidentals as there is no quick way to flip back to natural and continue with the rest of melody. For accidentals, I usually improvise by playing up or down a note which comes closest to pitch or ommiting the accidental note altogether. Hope this is helps. ?

Hi Marie, I want to understand your question better. Is your question to find out what type of songs to play with your lyre? If so, would you be able to share what type of lyre you have? If you have a modern lyre, it would likely be set up in the key of C so looking for songs written in the C major scale will work with your lyre easily without having to transpose. ?

@Learning The Lyre Harp I want to know which application you have to use to tune the lyre I am having difficulty I never arrive I believe in the right place. I have the Aklot 16 string lyre. I believe you introduced him to your channel. the modern. with the bridge

During my first few times experimenting with the lyre, I did notice how the lyre strings were just the sheet music held at a different angle. Was an eye-opening moment for me. I fell in love with the lyre right away.

That is so wonderful for me to hear. It’s why I put together the visual and to show the lyre strings and the staff line together. So many people ask me for music tabs but if they can only look at it from this point of view, they can see how easy it would be to read music sheet and play the lyre and have a whole world of music songs open up for them. You made my day! Thank you!
